'TopGolf' is an innovative new game from the UK that has been designed to bring a different slant to our favourite sport.
The game is played on a specially equipped driving range and utilises a new technology that embeds a micro-chip into a golf ball. Your details (name etc) are assigned to each ball as you collect them from the dispenser and are activated as you roll them down onto the tee.
The technology allows for a detailed analysis of shot distance and accuracy when shooting at the targets spread out on the range. The player also has the ability to track his performance on a monitor located in his/her driving bay.
A variety of games are on offer: TopGolf, TopBreak, TopPractice, TopChip, TopShot and TopPressure. With 20 balls per game, points are awarded for each shots accuracy and distance, relative to the game chosen. One of the fun aspects of the system is the central scoreboard that displays the days' leaderboard.
The Top Golf product looks the business and is sure to do well at inner city areas. Keen golfers around the world should give it a try when a facility arrives in their area. However, this new concept and addition to the game may not sit well with the traditionalists among you. It may seem like a bit too much of a technological jump into modernity, give it a try before you make up your minds though.
In my opinion, the TopGolf game looks to have bought with it a competitive edge into the driving range scene. I can only hope one will be built in my area soon.
